Welcome to my blog, The Healing Spoon! This is the story of my journey, a creative outlet and a safe place to share with you what is on my mind. My name is Yvonne and I am fighting for my life. When I am not busy “fighting”, I am a mom of two high school boys, two funny dogs, and the proud wife of an incredibly wonderful and caring man. In my life, I have worn many hats : fashion photographer, art student, world traveller, private chef and cake decorator and now with God’s grace, I am hoping for a new one : cancer survivor!
Flashback to December 2016, when I was diagnosed with a nasty rare form of breast cancer. Two months prior to my diagnosis, I went into see my family doctor because I was experiencing pain and swelling in my right breast and I was diagnosed as having mastitis. Looking at my symptoms, it is easy to see why I was misdiagnosed. If I would have know of the existence of inflammatory breast cancer, maybe I could have insisted upon a MRI and biopsy.
What exactly is inflammatory breast cancer and why have I never heard of it before?Inflammatory breast cancer is a rare form of breast cancer that is often misdiagnosed because the symptoms often do not present themselves the way normal breast cancer does. The-Inflammatory-Breast-Cancer-Guide
This cancer diagnosis was a shock to me. I was always pretty healthy and tried to do the right things. Maybe I wasn’t the most active and have a few pounds to lose, but overall I think I was doing ok. So what do I do now? Does this mean I’m going to die? What about all the things I’ve always wanted to do and it was never the right timing? Why did this have to happen to me? Is there anything I did or did not do? So why do I blame myself sometimes? There is no answer to why. I am not to blame. Stuff happens and sometimes it will happen to you. What is most important is not why this had to happen to me, but what I am going to do with it.
This is the story I am hoping to share with you. Sometimes we will laugh, sometimes we will cry, but above all we will experience life to its fullest! Keeping the Faith!
